SOMETHING ABOUT THE GALLERY

The Rendezvous Gallery has become a familiar landmark situated in the West End of Aberdeen since 1974. Having been in its present location on Forest Avenue for 40 years, the Rendezvous Gallery has established itself as a highly experienced and knowledgeable source for Scottish Art from 1880 to the present including contemporary artists. As well as the gallery exhibition space, the Rendezvous Gallery is unique in that it promotes the post-modern movement ranging from jewellery, glass, silver, bronzes, ceramics and furniture. In particular, the Gallery is keen to promote Scandinavian designed pieces from the 1950's onwards; including furniture and decorative objects.

Every year the Gallery holds approximately 10 exhibitions; usually solo exhibitions by contemporary Scottish artists. Three major exhibitions, 'The Academicians' in 2002, 'Invited Academicians and R.S.W. Members 2010' and 'Works from the Artist's Studio' in 2014 were held and included works from members of the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Scottish Society for Painters in Watercolours who have had connections to the Rendezvous Gallery.

The Rendezvous Gallery established an Artist in Residency programme on the Isle of Lewis in 2009. The Residency programme was established to encourage mainland Scottish artists to visit and experience the Outer Hebrides; in particular, the Isle of Lewis. Tigh Alasdair Ruaraidh, once a derelict cottage with an adjoining 18th century bothy have been restored into a comfortable residence and an artist's studio in Garyward, South Lochs.

The Rendezvous Gallery-Alistair McKinnon Residency has been funded by Sheila Selley,Ottawa, Canada, whose ancestors originated from the South Lochs, Isle of Lewis. Martin Gilbert, Aberdeen Asset Management has also supported a residency at Tigh Alasdair Ruaraidh in conjunction with Royal Scottish Society for Painters in Watercolours.

The residency programme has been permanently discontinued.
