Barbara Balmer

About the artists

Barbara Balmer was born in 1929 and trained at both Coventry and Edinburgh Art Schools. She has travelled widely but maintains that her first ever visit to Italy in 1973 was the most inspirational. She lived in Aberdeen for 25 years whilst her husband the artist George Mackie taught at Gray’s School of Art. Balmer was also a lecturer at Gray’s School of Art between 1970 and 1980 and has exhibited regularly over five decades in Edinburgh, Aber-deen and Stamford.
